Why Peplink: A History of Innovation

The second article in our “Why Peplink” series focused on SpeedFusion, Peplink’s proprietary VPN solution, while the first centered on Peplink’s SD-WAN technology.

When we partnered with Peplink more than a decade ago, we knew right away that the company was special. From top to bottom, they had a collective vision for the future of connectivity. It’s easy to be on the cutting edge of innovation when 90% of your employees are engineers. Because of that, the company is solutions-driven to help its customers excel.

Peplink was recognized in several of Gartner’s most recent reports as being in the Magic Quadrant for WAN edge infrastructure—that is, Gartner recognizes Peplink as one of the top 20 companies in the world working in this technology. This can, again, be attributed to Peplink’s drive for innovation.

But the accolades and successes haven’t caused Peplink to rest on their laurels—customer needs still come first. “Every product they have is because someone expressed a need for it,” says FrontierUS Partner Development Manager Jon Grote. “Other manufacturers have had to catch up because Peplink responds to customer requests so quickly.”

Peplink is at the forefront of innovation because leaders and engineers are willing to listen. “We’ve all been part of conversations with Peplink,” explains FrontierUS Director of Strategic Accounts Michael Maitland. “From our sales team to our service technicians, we’ve all brought ideas and concepts to the table, and Peplink thrives on those conversations.”

“It’s not unusual for us to sit down and whiteboard new products with Peplink,” says FrontierUS CEO Paul Wieland. “There are multiple examples of conference calls where Frontier, our customer, and Peplink all come together to talk about a challenge or a problem. Then, the next morning, a patch or solution has been developed and delivered to our customer. That’s how quickly Peplink ideates and builds solutions.”

Another example of Peplink’s innovative spirit is its SD-WAN technology. “Peplink was effectively using SD-WAN technology before there was even a name for it,” says Michael. “The company was doing it before anyone else was.”

Peplink always pushes the limits of connectivity devices; the company’s extended portfolio of products is proof. “The EPX, for example, can combine bandwidth of up to 18 connections and it supports 36 SIM cards. Plus, when you’re ready for 5G, the EPX has a module ready and waiting for it. It’s futureproof,” Michael details.

The MAX HD2 Dome is another recent example of advanced technology,” says Jon. “Peplink developed a dome product that has an antenna and a router in one enclosure. In a typical rooftop antenna, customers would experience cable loss. Not with this product. And sales are picking up because of it.”

As more proof of Peplink’s forward-thinking mentality, Michael and Jon point to FusionHub. When setting up a site-to-site connection with Peplink’s SpeedFusion VPN technology, an organization would traditionally need multiple Peplink devices. FusionHub is a virtual appliance hosted in the cloud that serves as an endpoint for SpeedFusion. “This is a breakthrough for customers who currently have only one Peplink device,” says Michael. “Or, if it’s cost prohibitive for a customer to purchase devices for multiple sites, FusionHub is there to simulate that SpeedFusion endpoint.”
