Rethinking End-of-Life

In IT, the words End-of-Life loom large. A manufacturer can designate a product end-of-life for no other reason than they are no longer supporting it. Manufacturers describe products as EOL long before the end of their usable service. Even the Wikipedia definition clarifies; EOL indicates, “the product is in the end of its useful life (from the vendor’s point of view).” That would be the same vendor hoping to sell new hardware.

EOL IT hardware reliably serves organizations, corporations and governments throughout the world. It could be argued that a far better designation would be EOS, for End-of-(new)Sales, or End-of-(vendor)Support. The manufacturer’s EOL designation tells more about the vendor selling the product than the hardware itself. Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) use EOL labels to move the next or later generations’ sales. Another tool they use to force upgrades is the disqualification of service contracts, or limiting of parts supplies for EOL equipment.

FrontierUS Supports EOL Hardware

FrontierUS knows the manufacturer’s end-of-life designation does not mean unusable or unserviceable. Unlike some OEM service that may be unavailable after an EOL designation, FrontierUS can service your hardware. The goal of a service plan is to keep you up and running, not to tell you how to manage your IT resources. Frontier Computer Corp. offers reliable on-site service for all the IT products you have, even when they are from various companies. We work every day with hundreds of different models from IBM, HP, Sun, Cisco, Dell, EMC, NetApp, Hitachi, and Fujitsu.
