Do a google search for “damaged package” and you will find hundreds of photographs of carelessly packed shipments destroyed in transit. We have all received shipments from major on-line resellers with questionable packaging—sensitive equipment thrown loosely in a box with an air pillow that doesn’t quite fill the empty space. Packing is just one of the concerns when you buy on-line, even from trusted sellers. When shipping electronics, packaging is critically important, which is why Frontier Computer Corp. maintain our own, in-house department for packing and shipping.
Aaron Novak, our logistics manager, assures that every piece of equipment leaving FrontierUS is securely packed in the correct, strong container, which is properly labeled. For any refurbished equipment that does not have an original carton, we custom build a nest of molding foam to protect each item from movement or impact.
In this example, Scott and Aaron pack each of two servers in their own oversized boxes with enough room for thick foam on all six sides. After he builds a foundation bed of foam, Scott fits each side of the server with a foam cell that expands into exactly the correct size. He secures the boxes on a pallet with four nylon straps. Scott uses protective corner braces to assure the boxes can handle the pressure of the binding straps. Once the boxes are secure, Aaron wraps the entire pallet in shrink-wrap. Next, the package is properly labeled and weighed, and ready for Fed-Ex pick-up, on our loading dock.
