The Cisco ONS 15540 Extended Service Platform (ESP) is a dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) optical transport platform aimed at the Metro DWDM Enterprise market. With the Cisco ONS 15540 ESP, users can take full advantage of the availability of dark fiber to build a common infrastructure that supports data networking, storage area networks (SANs), business continuance, time-division multiplexing (TDM), and Synchronous Optical Network (SONET)/ Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) traffic. The Cisco ONS 15540's protocol independent DWDM technology allows customers to increase backbone bandwidth with enhanced capability for ESCON, 1Gb and 2 Gb Fibre Channel, Gigabit Ethernet, 10Gigabit Ethernet and Digital Video applications.
